Top trends in bathroom tiles
Picking out tiles for your bathroom renovation is not a simple task. There is so much variety in the design, shape, color, and texture of a tile that it can be quite overwhelming. Traditionally tiles were laid down on walls and floors for their functional benefits (resistance to water, durability, low maintenance) but today, their aesthetic impact is just as important as their function.
Here are some top trends to look out for when selecting your bathroom tiles.
Patterned Graphic Tiles
Graphic patterned tiles are all the rage - and the bolder the better!
From subway tiles to ceramic, it’s safe to say that graphic pattern tiles can be anywhere and everywhere especially your bathroom. This style really gives homeowners the chance to tap into their creative side, or hire a designer to get creative for them.
Matte finish tiles have become very popular of late due to their stylish finish and ease to maintain. One of the major advantages of matte tiles is that they do not show smudges and water marks as easily as glossy tiles. This makes them ideal for the bathroom floor, especially in busy bathrooms. The low sheen makes them easier to maintain. However, when installing matte finish tiles make sure there is enough lighting, both natural and artificial, as these tiles are not known for reflecting light.
Stone and Marble Type Tiling
Marble is a natural rock and is seen as a high-end material that is popular for its stunning luxurious beauty. It is true that many people connect marble to mansions and palaces but technology and transportation has improved over the years which has has made marble more accessible to homeowners. However a great alternative to marble is stone and we are seeing this being used in bathrooms more due to it’s soft natural colour tones and stunning look.
Yes it’s true, metallic, is making it’s way into our bathrooms. First it was the copper piping and faucets and now we are seeing the shiny reflective metallic tiles and finishes showing up. It gives the room a modern look and done right can have a very powerful impact on your room.
Many tiles are differentiated by their colors and patterns but we are now seeing manufacturers starting to experiment with shape. Traditionally tiles have been either square or rectangular in bathrooms but the hexagon is making a come back especially on shower floors, where they create a uniquely different appearance. Use them as a large scale feature or on an accent wall but either way the use of shape adds a different and interesting dimension to your bathroom reno.
Choosing the right tiles for your bathroom can be quite a challenge but remember it’s supposed to be fun. There is a lot of variety to choose from be it colour, finish, and shape not to mention the material itself. Just remember to be practical and get what suits your home.
